Spoiler warning: This post contains spoilers for Orange Is the New Black season six.
It was hard to imagine how Orange Is the New Black would move forward after the riot that took up all of season five, but season six brought new villains and new storylines for the Litchfield inmates (at least, the ones who were transferred to Litchfield Max). The season six finale included plenty of shocking moments: Piper and Sophia are released early, but Blanca, devastatingly, is taken into an ICE bus. We have lots of questions about what will happen to the newly released inmates, as well as the ones who are still in Max. Justice isn't often served on OITNB, but maybe now that Piper is on the outside, she can better help her fellow inmates.
Here are a few of the season seven theories floating around — you never know which ones might play out on the Netflix series.
1. There's a Third Player in the Barb/Carol Situation
The season six finale shows Barb with a slit throat and Carol crawling to her death with a knife in her back, all while holding a bloody shiv (presumably the one used to kill Barb). Some Reddit users have suggested that a third person stabs Carol in the back, and that could be revealed in season seven. It's possible that Frieda is the one who stabs Carol. (Another Reddit user suggested that Frieda kills both of the Denning sisters, which would be even more twisted.)
2. Alex Could Be the New C-Block Boss
Without Carol and Barb around, it might be a fight to see who takes charge of each cell block. Alex falls in with Carol to help Piper, but she could assume a leadership role in the prison's gang activity (and get more time added to her sentence in the process).
3. Daya Could Die After an Overdose
This is a tragic prediction, but it's not outside the realm of possibility. Daya quickly becomes addicted to the drugs Aleida is smuggling into the prison, and she didn't seem concerned about it. It would be a heartbreaking ending for Aleida to regain custody of her other children, only to lose Daya, but OITNB isn't a happy show.
4. Larry Will Reach Out to Piper After Hearing About Her Book
In season six, Piper decides that she wants to write a memoir about her time in prison. That fits with the show's inspiration, the book Orange Is the New Black by the real-life Piper Kerman. While the fictional Piper just had a prison wedding to Alex, the real Piper is still married to Larry Smith. It's unlikely the show would have the fictional Piper and Larry reunite, but it would be a full-circle moment for Larry to congratulate Piper on the book deal.
5. Caputo Will Create a True-Crime Documentary About Taystee's Wrongful Conviction
This is a theory that's made its way around Reddit, and it does make a lot of sense. Now that Caputo has no ties to MCC/Polycon, he has a lot of free time. And in season six, Caputo shows how much he cares about helping prove Taystee's innocence. Given the popularity of shows like Making a Murderer, a true crime plot could definitely happen on Orange Is the New Black — especially because Netflix loves to put nods to the company in its own series.
6. Piper Will Live With Her Brother
Piper's brother, Cal, picks her up on her release date, so it wouldn't be much of a surprise if Piper goes to live with him and his wife. She doesn't really have anywhere else to go at this point, what with her strained relationship with her parents and the dissolution of her relationship with Larry.
7. Piper and Polly Will Become Friends Again
It majorly sucks that Piper's partner and best friend get together while she's incarcerated. But now that Piper's turned a new leaf with Alex, she might be more forgiving toward her friend. And as Reddit sleuths have pointed out, there are now-deleted photos that appeared to show Piper and Polly in new scenes together.
