After 25 Years, Sarah Jessica Parker Reveals Her Favorite Part of Filming Hocus Pocus
Sarah Jessica Parker is most well-known for Sex and the City, but long before she stepped into Carrie Bradshaw's iconic Manolos, she was busy sucking the life out of children with Bette Midler and Kathy Najimy in a little film called Hocus Pocus.
The 1993 movie has since become a beloved cult hit, especially around Halloween. While sitting down with Stephen Colbert on Tuesday night, Parker took a second to reflect on the spooky holiday — she said she "loved" Halloween as a kid and frequently rocked incredible homemade costumes courtesy of her talented mother (a lion was her personal favorite) — as well as the 25th anniversary of Hocus Pocus.
"I don't have a lot of memories of [Hocus Pocus]," she laughed. "I remember the filming of it, I just don't remember what the movie is about as much. I've only seen it [a few times] . . . apparently my character is not very bright. She's not very bright. She can fly and sing, and I think I liked to kill children."
Parker went on to note that of all the scenes in the film, her favorite parts were anytime her character, Sarah Sanderson, got to fly. "I liked making the movie, and I loved flying," she told the late night host. "It was old-fashioned wires and harnesses and picks and axles . . . it was marvelous. They'd call cut, or maybe they'd go to lunch or change the lens, and I would just stay up there! I realized that the costume, as you might have noted, is 17th century, so I could fit an entire New York Times up the back of the corset, and I found that the harness was comfortable. So I'd just sit up there and read the Times."
Personally we can't get enough of the "I Put a Spell on You" performance, but flying on a broomstick is admittedly pretty cool. Read through Parker's best moments in the movie ahead, then check out where you can watch Hocus Pocus this Halloween season!
