Apple Orders Isaac Asimov’s Foundation to Series
Apple TV is continuing to expand their growing number of original programming with an adaptation of Isaac Asimov’s classic science fiction novel Foundation.
The streaming service, designed by the tech conglomerate to rival platforms such as Netflix and Hulu, has ordered a full series commitment from showrunners David S. Goyer (Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice) and Josh Friedman (Avatar 2). The acclaimed novel collects an anthology of connected stories over several centuries chronicling the titular organization and its ongoing dedication to preserving culture in the face of galactic unrest.

A television adaptation of the Asimov novel, originally published as a series of short stories in various science fiction magazines, was originally pitched to HBO in 2014 by Interstellar writer Jonathan Nolan. After HBO passed on the project, Nolan instead developed Westworld for the network to critical and commercial success.
The upcoming sci-fi series marks the latest production confirmed in development for Apple TV after the company first announced plans to focus on creating original content for the service in January 2017. With Goyer and Friedman, the latter joining the production after dropping out of the upcoming Snowpiercer television series for TNT, leading the writers’ room, Asimov’s ambitious story will have some A-list talent helming the adaptation.
