Daredevil’s Bullseye Actor Reflects on When He Was Almost Captain America
Wilson Bethel, who debuted as Benjamin Poidexter, aka Bullseye, in the third season of Daredevil, very nearly beat out Chris Evans for the coveted role as Captain America.
Looking back on his career, the actor explained just how close he came to playing the First Avenger, and what effect it had on him. “I mean, that was both, probably the single most exciting time of my life and also the single most devastating when it didn’t happen,” he told ComicBook.com.

Going into detail about the audition process, Bethel said, “They put me in the Cap suit and did everything. So, I screen-tested it at Marvel with a number of other guys. They ended up releasing all the other guys …”
He met with Captain America: The First Avenger director Joe Johnston to see the movie’s storyboards, but accepted it wasn’t meant to be following his second screen test. “I think it was like one or two days later that they made the announcement that Chris Evans got the part,” Bethel said. “So, to be perfectly honest, that was one of the hardest moments in my professional career. And it spun me out for a while, to be honest with you.”
Praising Evans for his tenure as Captain America, Bethel also agreed that it was for the best. “The fact that things have kind of come full circle in a way, and I still get to be a dude in a suit, is pretty exciting,” he said.
