First Trailer for Patty Jenkins & Chris Pine’s I Am the Night Released
Wonder Woman director Patty Jenkins will direct Chris Pine again, and we don’t just mean in the Amazon princess’ upcoming sequel film! Jenkins and Pine are working together on a new TNT limited series called I Am the Night, about a former marine-turned-tabloid reporter who gets caught up in the story of Fauna Hodel, a teenager who discovers she was adopted and runs away from home to find her birth family.
Pine’s Jay Singletary helps her so he can find a scoop of his own, as Hodel’s birth mother was the teenage daughter of Dr. George Hodel, a suspect in the Black Dahlia murder case. While investigating her connection to the Hodels, Singletary uncovers the seedy underbelly of Los Angeles in the mid 1960s.

The series, which will air six episodes starting in January, was based on the autobiography of Fauna Hodel. Interestingly, when her birth mother gave her up for adoption, she claimed Fauna’s birth father was African-American. Thus, Fauna grew up believing that she was half-African American. This gives the book its original title, One Day She’ll Darken, which was ultimately changed to I Am the Night for the TV series release.

I Am the Night is part of TNT’s new “Suspense Collection” brand, which began with the limited series The Alienist earlier this year. The Suspense Collection promotes premium scripted drama with an emphasis, of course, on suspense stories. Jenkins and Pine are currently working on Wonder Woman 1984 together, which is due out in November 2019.
I Am the Night hits the airwaves in January 2019.
