Game of Thrones’ Maisie Williams Bids Farewell, Hints at Arya’s Fate
Maisie Williams has played Arya Stark since Game of Thrones first aired on HBO in 2011. With the series set to end in 2019, Williams has now bid Arya farewell, while also hinting at the character’s fate.
Williams posted a photo of bloody shoes to Instagram. “goodbye belfast,” she wrote alongside the post. “goodbye arya. goodbye game of thrones. what a joy i’ve had. here’s to the adventures to come #lastwomanstanding #barely #immasleepforthenextfouryears #justkiddingidontsleep”
Two of Williams’ hashtags, #lastwomanstanding and #barely, seem to hint that the character will last until the end of the series, potentially even surviving, though they’re vague enough to avoid spoiling the show. After Williams posted the photo, Lena Headey (Cersei Lanniser) commented, “QUEEN.” It’s not entirely clear to whom Headey is giving that title, but it’s certain to have fans guessing.

As of yet, few details have been revealed about the rest of Game of Thrones’ final season aside from the fact that it will be shorter that previous seasons. Season 8 will contain six episodes, each one running two hours and directed by one of four directors lined up: David Nutter, Miguel Sapochnik and D.B Weiss and David Benioff. We do know that this is an emotional season, at least from the perspective of the cast who reportedly cried after a table read, according to an interview by Entertainment Weekly with Sophie Turner.
