Grab Some Popcorn! These Are the Netflix Series to Add to Your Must-Watch List This Month

With a mix of new and returning shows, action series and drama series, and animated and live-action offerings — as well as the highly anticipated Maniac — Netflix's September TV lineup is insanely eclectic (and incredibly good). There are 28 new seasons of original Netflix programming that will be available to stream this September, and here's everything you need to know about them.

1. Cathedral of the Sea, Season 1 Cathedral-Sea-Season-1.jpg

Based on the novel by Ildefonso Falcones, this Spanish-language period drama follows a fugitive serf and his quest to ascend to a high status in Medieval Barcelona's caste system during the height of the Spanish Inquisition.

2. Monkey Twins, Season 1

In this Thai action series, a martial arts fighter and a police officer work together to take down an infamous criminal organization.

3. Sisters, Season 1

This series revolves around Julia Bechly, who finds out on the eve of her fertility-pioneer father's death that he also fathered 100 brothers that she's never heard of before — as well as two sisters, a TV star and a lawyer, with whom she develops a relationship.

4. Atypical, Season 2 Atypical-Season-2.jpg

In its second season, this series about a teen on the autism spectrum will follow Sam's trials as his parents separate and his sister adjusts to life at her new private high school.

5. Cable Girls, Season 3 Cable-Girls-Season-3.jpg

Based around four women working at the National Telephone Company in 1920s Madrid, the third season follows Lidia, Carlota, Ángeles, and Marga as they discover new talents, find their voices, and overcome their own private tragedies.

The second season of the Marvel series focuses on the aftermath of the Hand's defeat, when Chinatown is left at war and Danny Rand must try to keep the peace.

This animated series centers on Jake "Stretch" Armstrong and his superhero best friends, and in the second season, after they are wrongly accused for an attack on Rock Town, the Flex Fighters must regain Charter City's trust.

Starring Daniel Sloss, the Scottish comedian explores the dark and the taboo in his two full-length specials, Dark and Jigsaw.

In this Korean medical drama, an ER doctor and the new CEO clash over their priorities and ideals at Korea's top university medical center.

11. Boca Juniors Confidential, Season 1

A new docuseries, this show will profile Argentine soccer team, the Boca Juniors, focusing on the relationships between the players and their coaches.

Voiced by Will Arnett, the washed-up BoJack makes his comeback as the star of new detective series in the fifth season of this adult animated comedy.

In its second season, this Spanish-language crime drama follows First Lady of Mexico Emilia Urquiza as she continues life as a fugitive and figures out how to take down a drug trafficking empire.

On this new talk show, comedian Norm Macdonald and his sidekick Adam Eget will host a variety of celebrity guests, with a lineup that includes Drew Barrymore, David Spade, Judge Judy, David Letterman, Jane Fonda, Chevy Chase, M. Night Shyamalan, Michael Keaton, and Lorne Michaels.

15. The Dragon Prince, Season 1 Dragon-Prince-Season-1.jpg

This computer-animated fantasy series — from Avatar: The Last Airbender head writer Aaron Ehasz and Uncharted game director Justin Richmond — centers around two princes who forge a bond with the assassin sent to kill them.

In the next installment of this British docuseries, award-winning architect Piers Taylor and actress Caroline Quentin explore extraordinary architectural feats throughout Portugal, Switzerland, Japan, and the US.

A dark comedy based on the Norwegian TV show of the same name, this show will center around two strangers (Emma Stone and Jonah Hill) who believe themselves to be living out a fantasy life while they're actually locked up at an institution during a three-day pharmaceutical trial.

21. Norsemen, Season 2

In this Norwegian comedy series, the eighth-century Vikings of Norheim must deal with power struggles within their community and the looming threat of Jarl Varg.

The second season of this Argentine drama will go back three years before its first season takes place, exploring the backstory of the criminals and cops that populate San Onofre prison.

25. Lost Song, Season 1

This musical fantasy anime series is centered on two young women, Rin and Finis, who have the power to sing Spirit Songs, and though this ability gives Rin superhuman abilities, for Finis these songs take a drastic toll on her lifespan.

In the second season of this series about four tech-savvy teens trying to balance their ordinary lives and their secret missions to save the world, the Guardians face a new crop of threats from Megabyte, Hexadecimal, and their home lives.
