HBO Has ‘Very, Very High Hopes’ For Watchmen TV Pilot
HBO has “high hopes” for Watchmen, the Damon Lindelof pilot based on the seminal DC comic series by Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons.
While Watchmen itself asks, “Who watches the Watchmen?,” HBO Program President Casey Bloys is wagering that everyone will. With an all-star ensemble cast that includes Don Johnson, Jeremy Irons and Regina King, Watchmen is already teasing what could the next big TV addiction.

Speaking to journalists at the Television Critics Association’s summer press tour, Bloys said, “I have very, very high hopes” about the pilot. Although HBO has yet to announced a season order for Watchmen, Bloys continued, “They did a great job. Damon wrote a phenomenal script, and Nikki Kassell did an amazing job shooting the show. I think we see it in a few weeks. So, we’ll see.”
As Lindelof promises to take the story somewhere new, fans don’t know what the pilot will involve and aren’t even sure if Watchmen will include comic book characters like The Comedian, Rorschach and Nite Owl.

With the hit fantasy drama Game of Thrones preparing to bow out in 2019 and the celebrated Western Deadwood is finally set to return as a movie, Watchmen could nestle in among the likes of Westworld as a heavy hitter for the cable network.
Either way, Bloys’ words of a “few weeks” mean the Doomsday clock is ticking down for Watchmen and viewers should expect an answer very soon.
