Hedi Slimane Revamps the Céline Logo With New Accent-Less Look
After replacing Phoebe Philo as creative director earlier this year, Hedi Slimane is bringing big change to Céline. The designer introduced a new logo for the French fashion house in true celebrity style, by wiping the brand's Instagram account clean. The revamped logo debuted in a series of videos, featuring a shimmering gold curtain and a noticeably accent-less "Celine."

The rename has already drawn divided opinions in the fashion world, but this isn't the first time Slimane has created some controversy. As former creative director at Saint Laurent during his 2012 t0 2016 tenure, the designer famously cut Yves from the previously known Yves Saint Laurent.
Slimane offered some explanation for the new look in one of the video captions. "The new logo has been directly inspired from the original, historical version that existed in the 1960s," he wrote in the first lines. Addressing the axed accent, Slimane wanted a "simplified and more balanced proportion" that echoes the "Celine collections of the 1960's where the accent wasn't used often." The spacing of the letters has also been "balanced out" and "brought closer together."
As you can expect, the new Celine has already caused a stir on Twitter, prompting some funny reactions.

So Céline just removed the é and went back to being Celine as it was. With a slightly larger font size century gothic? Hedi is trolling.
