Joe Quesada Celebrates Luke Cage Season 2 with Haunting New Art
Joe Quesada is celebrating the premiere of Luke Cage‘s second season by sharing some haunting new artwork highlighting the Hero of Harlem.
The prolific artist and Marvel Chief Creative Officer illustrated an atmospheric piece of Cage in his trademark hoodie holding a flaming heart wrapped in barbed wire. Inspired by the more mystical-infused second season, Quesada shared his original art piece on Twitter.
There were actually two version of this piece. This second one gives the smoke more of an angle wind feel. @cheo_coker was instrumental in the concept as his script for episode one describe the visual in wonderful detail. So much so that when I read it I asked if I could draw it. pic.twitter.com/fdI9KILJBN

This is not the first piece of promotional artwork Quesada has illustrated for Marvel’s original Netflix programming first providing a teaser poster for the first season of Daredevil ahead of its 2015 premiere on the streaming service. Since then, Quesada has provided art for virtually every season of the MCU’s Netflix original series including a teaser poster for the first season of Luke Cage ahead of its 2016 premiere.

The critically acclaimed sophomore season of Luke Cage features heavy Caribbean influence as Jamaican crime lord Bushmaster (Mustafa Shakir) makes a play on taking over the criminal underworld in Harlem. The new antagonist is powered by a combination of rare herbs nicknamed nightshade giving him superhuman abilities allowing him to overpower the Hero of Harlem.
As spotlighted by Quesada, even though Cage’s skin may be bulletproof, his greatest vulnerability will always be his own beating heart.
Streaming now on Netflix, Marvel’s Luke Cage Season 2 stars Mike Colter, Simone Missick, Alfre Woodard, Theo Rossi, Mustafa Shakir, Gabrielle Dennis, Rosario Dawson, and Reg E. Cathey. It is developed for television by Cheo Hodari Coker.
