Netflix Announces Cannon Busters Release Date
Netflix has announced a release date for the anime series based on LeSean Thomas’ fantasy-adventure comic Cannon Busters.
Created, directed and executive produced by Thomas, the 12 episodes will debut on the streaming service on April 1, 2019, arriving as part of an anime wave that includes Ultraman, Kengan Ashura and the second season of Aggretsuko.

Cannon Busters follows the adventures of S.A.M, a high-end, royal-class friendship droid who’s joined by a quirky, discarded maintenance robot and a brash, deadly fugitive. Together, the unlikely trio embarks on an unforgettable journey in a fantastic and dangerous world in search of S.A.M’s best friend, the heir to a powerful kingdom under siege.
Just two issues of the comic were published in 2005, and Thomas had planned to continue the story as a graphic novel. However, none was ever released. An animator, character designer and storyboard artist whose credits include The Boondocks, Black Dynamite and The Legend of Korra, Thomas launched a successful Kickstarter campaign in 2014 to fund an eight- to 10-minute pilot for Cannon Busters. His most recent project is Children of Ether, streaming on Crunchyroll.

Matt Wayne (Justice League Unlimited, Niko & The Sword of Light) is story editor.
