Mondo Creative Director Brock Otterbacher and his team of artists are big fans and draw inspiration from the vintage figure line, the old mini-comics and unused concept art. The final designs even a sprinkle in of bits from the 1987 live-action movie starring Dolph Lundgren for good measure. Their goal for the line was to push the characters in new, highly detailed directions, but also keep a sharp eye on the past.

Mondo’s also created a vintage toy commercial that serves as both a fun nod to the past and a look at the future. Otterbacher describes the commercial as “an almost shot for shot recreation of one of the vintage Masters of the Universe commercials for the 80s.”

Continuing, the twist, he says, is “that the kids in those old commercials grew up, along with the Masters of the Universe figures they’re playing with!”

The He-Man figure is now available for pre-order at Mondotees.com, with the rest of the line to follow in the months ahead.
