Report: DC’s Doom Patrol TV Series Courting Kelsey Grammer
Kelsey Grammer is reportedly being eyed for the key role of Dr. Niles Caulder, AKA The Chief, in the upcoming Doom Patrol TV series.
A new report from That Hashtag Show indicates the multiple Emmy Award-winner is being courted to lead the series, a spinoff of the live-action Titans show, which along with its sister series will debut on the Warner Bros.-owned streaming service, DC Universe.

The news that Grammer is being eyed for Doom Patrol comes in the wake of a leaked character description for Dr. Caulder (via Revenge of the Fanboy), which is as follows:
The Chief is a noted scientist, wealthy investor and, of course, leader of The Doom Patrol. The Chief rescued each member of his team from horrific accidents, nurtured them to health, resuscitated their self-esteem and sent them into the world to defend a populace that sees them as little more than freaks. His disarming manner does little to conceal a steely determination and unwavering devotion to defending Earth from Evil’s oddest entities.

This latest report notes that, since Titans is still currently filming its first season in Toronto, there’s still time for Grammer to make an appearance on the DC Comics-based show in a backdoor pilot of sorts for Doom Patrol. Doom Patrol member Elasti-Girl, played by April Bowlby, has already been confirmed to appear on Titans.
Grammer has a long history in genre projects, having famously appeared as Hank McCoy/The Beast in 2006’s X-Men: The Last Stand and in a villainous turn for Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen. He also lent his vocal talents to Guillermo del Toro’s hit Netflix animated series, Trollhunters, for which he won his first Daytime Emmy Award.

Based on the team of super-powered misfits introduced in 1963 by Arnold Drake, Bob Haney and Bruno Premiani, the series will spin out of the events of the live-action Titans, which will feature the Doom Patrol in its fifth episode.
DC Universe has ordered 13 episodes of Doom Patrol, which hails from Berlanti Productions, in association with Warner Bros. Television. The one-hour drama is written Jeremy Carver (Supernatural, Being Human), who will executive produce alongside by Greg Berlanti, Geoff Johns and Sarah Schechter. Production is expected to begin later this year for a targeted 2019 debut on DC Universe.
