Simon Pegg Joins The Boys As Hughie’s Dad

Actor Simon Pegg served as the inspiration for Wee Hughie in Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson’s The Boys. However, when the time came to start casting for Amazon’s upcoming series, Pegg, who is 48, was too old to play the character he inspired. Actor Jack Quaid was instead cast to play Hughie, who is in his early 20s. Although it was thought Pegg wouldn’t be involved in the series, he has now joined The Boys as Hughie’s dad.

The news comes from a panel at New York Comic Con, which featured the cast and creators talking about the upcoming series. When the conversation moved to how Quaid felt about stepping into a character so strongly identified with Pegg, the Star Trek and Hot Fuzz actor walked out on stage to announce he was joining the cast as Hughie’s dad.

Following the announcement, the production released a photo of Quaid and Pegg together in their respective roles.

Based on the comic series of the same name by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson, The Boys is developed for television by Eric Kripke, Evan Goldberg, and Seth Rogen. The adaptation stars Karl Urban, Elisabeth Shue, Erin Moriarty, Antony Starr, Dominique McElligott, Jessie T. Usher, Chace Crawford, Nathan Mitchell, Laz Alonso, Jack Quaid, and Karen Fukuhara. It is expected to premiere on Amazon sometime in early 2019.
