Solo’s Qi’ra Gets the Spotlight in Star Wars Animated Short

A new animated short from Disney’s Star Wars: Forces of Destiny gives fans a glimpse at Qi’ra’s time as a Crimson Dawn lieutenant and offers a few fun ties to Star Wars canon.

Titled “Triplecross,” the animated comedy short has Qi’ra on the run from legacy Star Wars bounty hunter IG-88, when she’s ambushed by Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Star Wars: Rebels alum Hondo Ohnaka.

Qi’ra is taken into custody and starts to play the two bounty hunters against one another, claiming one has a higher bounty on their head than the other. Hilarity ensues, IG-88 tries to betray Hondo, Hondo stuns and cuffs IG-88, and Qi’ra escapes capture while they’re distracted.

Qi’ra sweeps Hondo’s leg (maybe with some of that now-canon Teras Kasi) and captures him. With both IG-88 and Hondo in her custody, Qi’ra is dubbed a ‘triplecrosser’ and the short ends.

It’s a fun side story that adds just a bit of context to the events of Solo: A Star Wars Story. While neither of these two bounty hunters are mentioned in the film, Hondo’s longtime love interest Aurra Sing is name-dropped, as well as fan-favorite Bossk.

With Solo being more obvious with its ties to Star Wars extended canon than most of the other films in the saga, it makes sense for an initiative like Forces of Destiny to shine some more light on that.

In theaters now, director Ron Howard’s Solo: A Star Wars Story stars Alden Ehrenreich as Han Solo, Donald Glover as Lando Calrissian, Emilia Clarke as Qi’ra, and Joonas Suotamo as Chewbacca. They’re joined by Thandie Newton as Val, Phoebe Waller-Bridge L3-37, Paul Bettany as Dryden Vos, and Woody Harrelson as Tobias Beckett.
