Star Trek: 5 New Potential TV Series in Development
Following news that Alex Kurtzman has joined an expanded universe of Star Trek shows beyond Star Trek: Discovery, reports suggest that up to five new series could be in the works at CBS.
According to Variety, Kurtzman’s five-year deal will have him oversee up to five new Star Trek projects. Among the rumored shows are a series set at Starfleet Academy from Runaways showrunners Stephanie Savage and Josh Schwartz and a limited series based on the famous Wrath of Khan movie from 1982. Additionally, CBS is planning an animated series and at least one more limited series, whose details are currently being kept under wraps.

The report also touched on recent rumors that Patrick Stewart could return to the Star Trek universe, as the fifth show under Kurtzman’s rein could bring Stewart back as fan-favorite character Captain Jean-Luc Picard.
If the reports all turn out to be true, Kurtzman will have his plate full, since he will also be Discovery‘s new showrunner. CBS Television Studios will have rights to all Star Trek shows for the next five years in a deal that has reportedly also secured Kurtzman for $25 million.

Premiering in 2017, Star Trek: Discovery starred Sonequa Martin-Green, Michelle Yeoh and Jason Isaacs while charting the earlier days of Starfleet aboard the USS Discovery. Though it was repeatedly delayed over the course of its production, it earned praise for being a grittier Star Trek show set in the Prime Timeline. Discovery is now heading for a second season and promises to tie closer to Gene Roddenberry’s Star Trek: The Original Series, and it sounds like there is plenty more to come from the reignited Star Trek fandom.
Available for viewing on the CBS All Access streaming platform, Star Trek: Discovery stars Sonequa Martin-Green, Doug Jones, Anthony Rapp, Shazad Latif, Mary Wiseman, Wilson Cruz, Mary Chieffo, Jason Isaacs and Michelle Yeoh.
