Supergirl’s Jesse Rath Promoted to Series Regular For Season 4
At least one of Supergirl‘s Legionnaires is here to stay. Jesse Rath, who plays Brainiac-5, has been upped to a series regular for Season 4.
“We love the character of Brainiac-5 and can’t imagine anyone but Jesse Rath in the role,” executive producers Robert Rovner and Jessica Queller said in a statement, per Deadline. “He brings such fun, heart and brilliance to Brainy and we’re so excited he’s joining the cast as a series regular for Season 4. We have a lot of great Brainy stories to tell.”

Rath’s Brainiac-5 — called “Brainy” for short — debuted as a recurring character in Season 3. A being both computer and organic, Brainy was introduced as a member of the Legion of Super-Heroes, who traveled back in time from the 31st century to stop the Worldkiller Pestilence from evolving into the Blight and killing an entire planet’s population. During his time in the 21st century, he developed a rapport with Supergirl and helped the DEO in the fight against Reign. He last appeared in the episode “Shelter from the Storm,” where he and fellow Legionnaire Saturn Girl traveled back to the future. It is unclear if he will return for the Season 3 finale, which airs next week.
Airing Mondays at 8 p.m. on The CW, Supergirl stars Melissa Benoist as the Girl of Steel, David Harewood as Martian Manhunter, Mehcad Brooks as Jimmy Olsen, Chyler Leigh as Alex Danvers and Jeremy Jordan as Winn Schott, with appearances by Calista Flockhart as Cat Grant and Tyler Hoechlin as Superman.
