Supernatural’s Jensen Ackles Meets Red Hood, Again, in New Photo
Jensen Ackles, who is well-known for his role as Dean Winchester on the hit show Supernatural, has seen one of his Instagram posts go viral with over 800,000 likes and 6,000 comments. The post features a photo of Ackles in a playful staredown with a mannequin wearing a Red Hood costume alongside a caption that reads, “Jason Todd meet Dean Winchester. Well this is awkward.”

In addition to his role in Supernatural, Ackles, of course, previously voiced the character of Jason Todd/Red Hood in the acclaimed 2010 DC animated movie Batman: Under the Red Hood. At this time, however, it’s unclear if this post by Ackles is simply meant to be a wink and a nod to his longtime fans, or if he’s actually teasing something bigger.
On that note, it is definitely worth mentioning that Supernatural currently airs on The CW, the home of DC’s Arroweverse, which certainly hasn’t been shy about introducing Batman-adjacent characters as of late. Additionally, a comic book character being played by the same actor in both animation and live-action isn’t exactly unheard of, if Matt Ryan’s John Constantine and Milana Vayntrub’s Squirrel Girl have taught us anything.

Part of the reason why Under the Red Hood is so beloved by Batman fans comes down to Ackles’ performance as Jason Todd. So, him taking on the character live-action is undoubtedly an interesting prospect. Even if the Instagram post is nothing more than a nod to his fans, it’s still rather nice to see that Ackles looks back fondly on lending his voice to the iconic leather-clad vigilante.
Supernatural, starring Jared Padalecki, Jensen Ackles and Misha Collins, returns to The CW on Oct. 11.
