The Gifted: Reed Strucker’s New Powers Are ‘Very, Very Bad News’
In The Gifted Season 2, Strucker patriarch Reed will dig into his past and discover a few mutant powers of his very own.
“I look back at my past, and I look at my father’s notes, and I basically try to see who I could have been before, and that’s how maybe things start to happen,” Reed actor Stephen Moyer told TV Guide. He did not elaborate as to what exactly his character’s powers would be, but did tease, “It’s in the family.”

To clarify, Reed’s children Lauren and Andy both possess the ability to manipulate matter on a molecular level. However, where Lauren is able to use this power to create barriers to protect herself, Andy’s version is based around destruction. Moreover, when the two join hands, they are capable of generating an extraordinarily powerful blast.
Lauren and Andy inherited these powers from Reed’s grandfather Andreas von Strucker and his twin sister Andrea. Known collectively as Fenris, the von Strucker twins were infamous mutant terrorists and members of the Hellfire Club. Additionally, Otto Strucker was an rather powerful mutant in his own right, possessing the power of energy projection. Otto experimented on Reed as a child, successfully suppressing his mutant powers.

“Reed’s had powers suppressed for 30-something years,” The Gifted showrunner Matt Nix explained. “So when they come along, it’s a rough ride. It’s a very, very rough ride. It’s not like he’s suddenly a super hero. And one of the things we think about a lot is how are these powers hooked into someone’s emotional life, and Reed’s a pretty repressed guy. So powers showing up for Reed is not good news. It’s very, very bad news.”
