The Predator’s Shane Black Wants to Direct Episodes of The Flash & Supergirl
Even though Shane Black’s next film is the upcoming release of The Predator, an update of the popular sci-fi action film franchise he once starred in (playing a comic book-reading nerd no less), that hasn’t stopped the director from eying other projects, including a movie to television for The Flash and Supergirl.
The Iron Man 3 director told Collider at Comic-Con International in San Diego that if he were to direct a TV show, he would single out one of the two series from The CW’s Arrowverse.

Black differentiated Supergirl and The Flash from a show like Homeland, which in his mind offers less opportunity to make an episode that is distinct or has a few surprises. “You wouldn’t want to take a show that already has a style,” he said. “Like Homeland is so great, I love Homeland, but you probably want to take something more like Supergirl. And just do one episode that’s just like, ‘What the…what?’”
The director admitted to getting acquainted with both shows through a binge watch. “Actually, one weekend I put it on and for some reason, over the next two weeks, I watched the first two seasons of Supergirl. And actually thought, ‘You know this is a pretty entertaining show.’ And The Flash, same thing,” Black said.
Supergirl and The Flash might seem outside Black’s wheelhouse even with Iron Man 3 on his resume, but he would be in good company if he ever did work on the show. Kevin Smith, another comic book fan and film director, has helmed episodes for both in the past, most recently during Supergirl‘s third season.

As for Shane Black’s present commitments, The Predator hits theaters on September 14th. It stars the eclectic cast of Olivia Munn, Thomas Jane, Keegan-Michael Key, and Trevante Rhodes.
