Tiffany Haddish is taking her ex-husband to school -- law school, no less -- telling him why his defamation lawsuit against her is doomed ... TMZ has learned.

Tiffany's responding to William Stewart's lawsuit claiming she lied about him in her book, "The Last Black Unicorn" ... particularly when she accused him of domestic abuse. In new docs, filed Friday in L.A., Tiff does a bit of legal gloating, ya might say.

Tiff admits he reached out to express some concerns about the book, but says he never specified what he wanted changed.

Translation: Nah nah nah nah nah, you screwed up your lawsuit!!

This doesn't mean Stewart's case is going away, but it would slow things down dramatically because he'd have to file additional papers before the lawsuit can go forward.
