Timeless Canceled by NBC For a Second Time

NBC has canceled its critically acclaimed time-travel drama Timeless, again.

The network dropped the ax on the series the first time in May 2017, with the end of its first season, only to swiftly reverse course and order a second season. However, Deadline reports this latest decision comes just days before the cast’s options expire.

Producer Sony TV is in talks with NBC about the possibility of a two-hour special that would close out the series definitively. Following the announcement of the cancellation, the cast and crew of Timeless have thanked fans on Twitter for their support.

“Thank you for all your support Timeless fans! It’s been an absolute joy playing your Lucy,” wrote star Abigail Spencer. “I sincerely hope we get to do the Timeless movie to wrap up the story and get one more go to wrap up the series in a powerful & elegant way!”

“Gutted by this, guys, I know you are too,” tweeted co-creator Eric Kripke. “Behind the scenes, Sony has been trying hard to set it up elsewhere, but no luck so far. I think this 2 hour movie is our best shot. We’re ready to make it if NBC really wants it. Let ’em know how you feel.”

Created by Kripke and Shawn Ryan, Timeless stars Abigail Spencer (True Detective, Rectify), Matt Lanter (Star Wars: The Clone Wars), and Malcolm Barrett (Preacher) as members of a team recruited to travel back in time to protect the past from a mysterious criminal.
