Watchmen’s Latest Casting Announcement May Indicate a Flashback Sequence
HBO today announced a new round of casting for the network’s upcoming television adaptation of Alan Moore and David Gibbons’ graphic novel Watchmen. It’s… perhaps not the casting you were expecting.
Dylan Schombing (Sharp Objects), Adelynn Spoon (Charlotte’s Web) and Lily Rose Smith (The Vampire Diaries) will join the series in undisclosed roles. Schombing, Spoon and Smith are all child actors. Watchmen is a series notably light on child characters, which has led some to speculate that the trio of young actors may have been hired for a flashback sequence.

HBO’s Watchmen adaptation is written and executive produced by Damon Lindelof of Lost and The Leftovers fame. HBO Program President Casey Bloys recently stated that the network has “very, very high hopes” for the pilot episode of the upcoming series.
While the casting news will likely draw comparisons to the 2007 episode of The Simpsons, “Husbands and Knives,” in which Milhouse requests Alan Moore sign his copy of Watchmen Babies in V for Vacation, the original graphic novel did feature some roles that could be played by child actors.
Chief among those roles would be a young version of Walter Kovacs, otherwise known as the unhinged vigilante Rorschach. A trio of trick or treaters are also featured in the “Old Ghosts” storyline.
