Wonder Woman Writer Developing Female Marvel Superhero Series at ABC
The ABC network will soon look a little more heroic, as it was announced on Wednesday that Wonder Woman scribe Allan Heinberg is developing a women-focused Marvel superhero series for the network. Heinberg will also act as an executive producer on the series, the details of which are currently sparse.
The news from Deadline comes a day after it was revealed Disney is also prepping television series based on Marvel Cinematic Universe characters like Loki and Scarlet Witch for its upcoming streaming service. That report claimed that actors Tom Hiddleston and Elizabeth Olsen are expected to reprise their respective roles for those shows, though nothing has been confirmed yet.

While the superhero roster for the newly-announced show is yet to be revealed, it does beg the question whether the woman characters slated for the show also hail from the MCU and, if that’s the case, whether their respective big screen actors will play them on the show. The network certainly has a track record of doing just that when it comes to the MCU.
Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. resurrected Clark Gregg’s S.H.I.E.L.D. Agent Phil Coulson for the network after he seemingly died in 2012’s The Avengers. Similarly, Hayley Atwell’s S.H.I.E.L.D. Agent Peggy Carter was plucked from 2011’s Captain America: The First Avenger for the short-lived television show Agent Carter.
Who ABC might decide to snatch from the MCU, or which Marvel Comics characters they decide to adapt for the small screen, remains to be seen.
